Description
The Business Development (BD) Executive will drive and implement
the business development efforts for the firm's the global
Regulatory & Investigations team and the associated lawyers across
the Reed Smith platform. The successful candidate will be
responsible for proactively creating and implementing business
development activities, internal and external profile-raising
efforts, and supporting practice group strategies across the
Firm.
Regulatory is a key capability for Reed Smith. The Firm has
talented regulatory attorneys based in every office providing
enforcement and advisory services to clients related to government
investigations, antitrust and competition, international trade,
government relations, government contracts. We also offer a wide
range of sectoral capabilities, with experienced energy,
commodities, financial and life sciences regulatory attorneys based
throughout the Firm. The Regulatory & Investigations BD team
supports regulatory lawyers based in Asia, Europe, the UK and the
US.
This is a varied and exciting role, which would give the successful
candidate experience of the full marketing mix. This highly
detailed and organized professional will drive revenue through a
full spectrum of marketing and BD efforts, including the
development of key credentials, leading on pitch opportunities and
event management. The successful candidate will support key
partners in delivering on key regulatory initiatives,
thought-leadership activity, campaigns and campaign components.
This individual will carry through with project management and ROI
measurement, staying close to market trends and maintaining an
awareness of competitors.
The successful candidate will report to the Senior BD Manager based
in Leeds and work alongside a Senior BD Executive based in Los
Angeles and a BD Executive based in New York. The successful
candidate would be joining a cohesive, supportive and
high-performing team. A collaborative, proactive, and enthusiastic
approach with the ability to work with little supervision is also
key. The successful candidate should be a robust, confident and
effective communicator, with the ability to offer ideas at team
meetings and draft clear and accurate copy

Responsibilities
Interact globally with group leaders and other key attorneys on BD
activities; develop strong working relationships and maintain a
high level of day-to-day interaction with lawyers.
Assist in the development of agendas and presentations for practice
group strategy meetings; prepare and circulate meeting summaries to
report on progress towards action and goals.
Draft pitch materials, presentations and responses to Requests for
Proposals; review and edit content where necessary; support the
development and maintenance of proposal content and capabilities.
Ensure follow up is sought from client post pitch; track and act on
actions which arise; assess how feedback can be used to enhance win
rate.
Identify opportunities to cross-sell the regulatory practice into
the firm's key clients - known as "ClientsFirst" - as well as work
with other practice group BD professionals to identify
opportunities where appropriate to cross-sell regulatory
services.
Alongside regulatory partners, pinpoint business development
opportunities with new and existing clients and execute on
individual marketing plans.
Manage contributions and input related to attorney experience and
client information into business development systems including CRM
and Foundation.
Draft and edit marketing collateral, including practice area
descriptions and attorney biographies; facilitate posting updates
to firm website and intranet as needed.
Collate content for internal newsletters and marketing campaigns to
drive awareness throughout the firm of the group's capabilities and
experience.
Assist with submissions for major awards and legal directories to
further the awareness and positioning of the group; maintain
repositories of practice group accolades and awards.
Ensure all marketing communications channels are utilized to convey
consistent messages about the group and its experience, including
the use of social media in consultation with the digital team. Work
with our communications and media staff to identify and pursue PR
opportunities in key legal trade and industry publications and
industry surveys.
Drive strategy for brand positioning efforts, including the
management of conference sponsorships, client presentations,
seminars and webinars.
Provide a professional work product, as well as delivery of all
work within established deadlines.
All other duties as assigned.
Key Skills, Attributes and Experience
College degree in Marketing, Business, Communications or related
field required
Minimum of 12-18 months in a marketing/business development role,
ideally within a professional services environment. Previous
marketing, public relations, events or media experience a plus, as
well as an interest in and ability to understand the legal business
environment, including industry terminology. Must have demonstrated
experience working independently as well as within cross-functional
teams in a collaborative, professional environment.
Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word,
Excel, and PowerPoint.
Technologically savvy and able to quickly learn new database
systems
Extremely detail oriented, proactive and self-directed with ability
to independently manage and appropriately prioritize multiple
projects and competing priorities under tight deadlines, sometimes
with minimal oversight.
Able to demonstrate sound professional judgment and a high degree
of poise and professionalism when interacting with internal and
external contacts.
Comfortable establishing effective firmwide working relationships
and communicating with individuals at all levels.
Possess, and be willing to continue to develop, strong
organizational, project management and problem solving skills.
Able to work independently as well as part of a team, and be
flexible in approach
