JOB DESCRIPTIONThis is a trainee level at the Wastewater Treatment Plant. Under supervision, incumbents learn and perform a variety of monitoring, maintenance, operations, and repair work on the wastewater treatment system and facilities. It is distinguished from Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator by performing less complex work and requiring no certification or licensure.RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:Many of the assignments listed below are performed in a training and learning capacity under the direction of a certified operator with the expectation that an incumbent will develop the capacity to perform the full scope of work with minimal guidance and supervision.Essential and other important responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:Monitor mechanical wastewater system operations, reading charts and gauges noting operational problems and recommending adjustments to maintain system spect and maintenance on equipment such as pumps, motors, electrical components, etc.Perform routine/preventative maintenance such as adjusting belts, replacing belts, changing oil in pumps to ensure optimal working condition.Measure and monitor wastewater chemicals; report variances to appropriate personnel.Gather samples at appropriate sampling points, using proper procedures and recording information for records.Performs basic laboratory testing analysis as needed using a variety of testing equipment and procedures.Operate wastewater equipment and mechanical feed equipment.Checks flow patterns of water and sludge.Maintains a variety of records and reports related to wastewater system operations.Maintain housekeeping tasks for work area tools, equipment, facilities and grounds.Work in compliance with all company policies, NCC Animal Welfare Guidelines and local, state and federal policies, laws and regulations.Performs other duties as assigned.EDUCATION:High School Diploma or equivalentValid Driver's License with demonstrated safe driving record requiredSKILLS:Ability to learn and perform a wide scope of assignments in the operation, maintenance, adjustment, and repair of the wastewater treatment system.Learn and inspect wastewater treatment facilities and systems for proper and safe operating conditions.Learn to collect samples and conduct basic laboratory tests.Learn to skillfully use a variety of hand and power tools in the maintenance, testing, monitoring, adjustment, and repair of wastewater treatment facilities and systems.Learn and maintain detailed and accurate operational logs.Learn and operate specialized computer programs.Learn and operate testing equipment.Maintain accurate records and reports.Learn laws, rules, regulations, and environmental requirements applicable to operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment facilities and termediate math (add, subtract, multiply and divide)Computer skills, specifically Word, Excel programs and work with spreadsheetsAbility to work nights, weekends, holidays and extended shift hoursSound work ethic, honesty and moral characterSAFETY REQUIREMENTS:Follow departmental and company safety policies and programsMust wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times in areas where requiredPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Stand up to 8 hoursExposure to wet and dusty environmentsFrequently reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling and crawlingLift up to 40 lbs.We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
