SunIRef:it Database Administrator Arkansas Colleges of Health Education (ACHE) - Fort Smith, AR 72916 Database Administrator The Database Administrator (DBA) role is responsible for managing and developing database environments for applications, analytics, and reporting. The role contributes to the development and execution of both the IT application and analytic strategies and ensures its alignment with ACHE's strategy. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Provide support and training to the development and technical staff for database related technologies. Maximizing database technology and ensuring that it is used to its fullest potential. Monitor database performance and resolve any issues with performance. This includes, but not limited to, query plan optimization, index optimization, database and/or application architecture recommendations, database system configuration, implementing stored procedure/SQL best practices, and troubleshooting database issues with 3rd party software. Install, upgrade and maintain all database software. Promote effective working relationships with administration, faculty, staff, students and outside contacts including contractors and vendors. Support all application and database projects for ACHE. Work with leaders to understand ACHE's requirements and propose solutions and make technology recommendations that can be used to achieve strategic objectives. Assist in the development of departmental policies and procedures, establish or revise operation and procedural requirements as needed. Maintain confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential. Provide database project management, tracking and status reporting to VP & CTO. Maximize information technology by researching and evaluating innovations and trends in the IT industry. Collaborate with all team members of Information Systems and Technology. Ensure Faculty and Staff are trained on all applications for their work area. Assist with the implementation, support, and maintenance of Information Systems and Technology needs related to applications, databases, reporting and other software packages. Support staff, faculty, and students with IT requirements. Demonstrate the highest standard of professionalism and ethical behavior in all aspects of personal and professional actions and performance. Provide comradery based on ethics and principles as they relate to the IT activities of the colleges. Demonstrate a sensitivity to, and understanding of the diverse academic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of faculty, staff, and students. Provide service to the college community and students through serving on ACHE department committees and participating in community outreach events and professional groups as assigned by the VP & CTO. Demonstrate adaptability and the willingness to assist the college in fulfilling its mission and vision through IT duties and/or perform special duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned by the VP & CTO or his/her designee. QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS Education and Experience Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a Computer Information Systems field of study from an accredited college or university, or 3 years equivalent work experience in a database administrator role. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in a Computer Information Systems field of study from an accredited college or university Microsoft SQL Server 2008, 2012, 2014 and beyond Expert knowledge of SQL query language and best practices for its usage Knowledge of performance and tuning of database software and queries Power BI and Analytical reporting Required knowledge, skills, and abilities Proficiency in SQL, Dynamix 365 and other Microsoft applications, software and technology terminology Advanced knowledge of software troubleshooting skills and diagnostic skills Ability to read, analyze and interpret data and databases and make sound decisions to enhance service Excellent communication skills Ability to present complex concepts in a clear and concise manner Knowledge of dynamic report writing skills Strategic planning of database processes ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES ESSENTIAL TO THE FUNCTION OF THE JOB Communication and Comprehension ACHE is in full compliance with American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and does not discriminate with regard to applicants or employees with disabilities and will make reasonable accommodation when necessary. Possess public communication skills that allow professional representation of ACHE to a variety of business and community customers and associates. Strong organizational skills. Problem Solving Intuitively able to reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature. Physical and Sensory Abilities May be exposed to short, intermittent, and/or prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing in performance of job duties. May be required to accomplish job duties using various types of equipment/supplies to include, but not limited to pens, pencils, calculators, computer keyboards, telephone, etc. May be required to transport oneself to other campus offices, conference rooms, and on occasion, to off-campus sites to attend meetings, conferences, workshops, seminars, etc. May require significant travel or work away from campus. Requires attendance at events representing ACHE both within as well as outside of the college setting. Frequently required to work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations. Frequently required to see for purposes of reading material. Frequently required to hear and understand speech at normal levels. Occasionally required to lift items up to 100 lbs. Frequently required to operate office and presentation equipment.
