Job Description:
Job Title: CNA or PCT (can be uncertified) - PRN - Nights in the
Med/Surg unit Supervised by: Registered Nurse/Director Job Summary:
Assists patients with activities of daily living, provides basic
nursing care to non-acutely ill patients and assists in maintenance
of a safe and clean environment under the direction and supervision
of the registered nurse in charge of the team and/or unit.
Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas: Provides basic
nursing care to non-acutely ill patients within the nursing
assistant’s scope of practice that includes actions that meet
psychosocial needs and physical needs. Provides general aspects of
care that meet psychosocial or physical needs or both
simultaneously, within the nursing assistant’s scope of practice.
Meets communication needs of patients. Demonstrates performance
reflecting the initiative and responsibility expected of a nursing
assistant. Performs other duties as assigned, within the Nursing
Assistant’s scope of practice. Assists in admission, transfer and
discharge of patient. Performs basic patient care responsibilities
considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient’s
age. Notifies appropriate licensed staff when patient complains of
pain. Demonstrates ability to communicate to the nurse any observed
changes in patient status and responses. Maintains awareness of the
needs of the pediatric, geriatric and general patient population.
Demonstrates ability to assist with feeding patients and
maintaining fluid balance with technique appropriate for patient’s
age and physical condition. Provides explanation to patient and
family prior to administering care to patient; answers questions
within scope of practice. Demonstrates ability to perform
treatments and provide services within scope of practice.
Communicates appropriately and clearly to team leader, co-workers
and physicians. Consults other departments as appropriate to
provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs.
Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient,
including pediatric, geriatric and general population. Performs all
aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient
safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function
under stressful situations. Responds to patient in emergency or
physically distressful situations. Treats patients and their
families with respect and dignity. Interacts professionally with
patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the
plan of care. Maintains a good working relationship both within the
department and with other departments. Meets current documentation
standards and policies and completes within shift. Manages and
operates equipment safely and correctly. Coordinates and supervises
patient care under the direct supervision of an RN. Demonstrates
knowledge of disease entities. Professional Requirements: Adheres
to dress code, appearance is neat and clean. Maintains regulatory
requirements, including all federal, state, local regulations and
accrediting organization standards. Maintains and ensures patient
confidentiality at all times. Maintains patient confidentiality at
all times. Reports to work on time and as scheduled, completes work
within designated time. Wears identification while on duty, uses
computerized punch time system correctly. Completes in-services and
returns in a timely fashion. Attends annual review and department
in-services, as scheduled. Attends 12 staff meetings annually or
reads and returns monthly staff meeting minutes. Represents the
organization in a positive and professional manner. Actively
participates in performance improvement and continuous quality
improvement (CQI) activities. Complies with all organizational
policies regarding ethical business practices. Communicates the
mission, ethics and goals of the hospital, as well as the focus
statement of the department. Requirements Regulatory Requirements:
Preferred High School graduate or equivalent. Successful completion
of certified nursing assistant program. Current BLS certification.
Language Skills: Able to communicate effectively in English, both
verbally and in writing. Additional languages preferred. Skills:
Basic computer knowledge. Physical Demands: Mobility, sight,
hearing, verbal communication, changes in temperature, exposure to
disagreeable elements, exposure to biological, mechanical,
electrical, and chemical hazards. Frequent standing and walking.
Lift up to 100 pounds. Carrying up to 40 pounds. Pushing/pulling up
to 450 pounds. This position is a safety sensitive position
pursuant to Amendment 98 to the Arkansas Constitution § 2(25). A
safety sensitive position means any position in which a person
performing the position while under the influence of marijuana may
constitute a threat to health or safety. This position is therefore
“safety sensitive” due to the fact it requires the following:
performing life-threatening procedures; working with hazardous or
flammable materials, controlled substances, food, or medicine; and
a lapse of attention while working in this position could result in
