Job Description:

The Patient Safety Manager (PSM) is responsible for directing process improvements and assisting with correcting errors that can lead to adverse patient outcomes. The PSM is responsible for ensuring the whole hospital embraces the overall culture of safety. The PSM is responsible to maintain, monitor and ensure follow up on entries into the patient safety event reporting system for all facilities in the Mercy Fort Smith Communities. --The PSM is the system administrator and assists all leaders with access and education related to the patient safety reporting system as well as education on patient safety programs such as Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Just Culture. The PSM facilitates and participates in patient safety activities and initiatives for all departments as well as Critical Access Hospitals. The PSM leads RCA---s, defect huddles and chairs the patient safety committee. The PSM ensures action plans of patient safety events are effective and improvement and/or resolution has occurred. --The PSM routinely runs reports and communicates to appropriate leaders and committees any significant patient safety trends and works with departments for resolution. Collaborates closely with Customer Relations team to coordinate complaint follow-up. Designs, presents and implements patient safety programs to increase awareness. Ensures compliance with state and federal requirements. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards. Qualifications: Education: Graduate in a healthcare related field from an accredited educational institution.Licensure: Current Arkansas RN or LPN LicenseExperience: Two years of experience with critical thinking, teaching, mentoring, communication and leadership skills. Two to Five years experience in Quality, Risk or Safety activities.Certifications: CPPS-Certified Professional in Patient Safety within three (3) years of hire.Other: Knowledge and use of Microsoft office and excel. Strong computer skills. Ability to learn new software programs. Strong oral and written communication skills. Positive, strong human relation skills required. Professionalism and confidentiality are essential. Accurate record keeping and organizational skills required. Excellent interpersonal skills for interfacing with physicians, executives, hospital personnel, patients and families. Must be capable of working closely with medical and hospital staff. Adheres to patient confidentiality policies of the institution and state statutes. Must be flexible in meeting job functions. Strong critical thinking skills required. Must have strong skills in analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of information.Preferred Education: Masters degree in a healthcare related fieldPreferred Licensure: Licensure or certification in healthcare field.Preferred Experience: Strong clinical background preferred with at least 2-5 years experience. Strong critical thinking, teaching, mentoring, communication and leadership skills. Two to Five years experience in Quality, Risk, or Safety activities.Preferred Certifications: Certification in Quality, Risk, SafetyPreferred Other: Ability to communicate clearly with all disciplines.
