In this role you will be responsible for identification, exploration and implementation of R&D, engineering and technology/product development and growth strategies within the global NEMA Motors Division to enhance and secure ABB -s global position and profitability in the medium/long term, in NEMA Motors - Motion in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Reporting to the Division President, you will ensure project execution and foster innovation and develop and secure research and development (R&D) capabilities.

Your responsibilities

Technical and scientific proficiency and leadership - Coordinates NEMA technology and reports to Division management. Ensures the alignment of strategies, processes and corresponding R&D plans, Facilitates technology issues within NEMA and across Divisions. Is involved at an operational level in important and critical technology issues and/or projects within Division ensuring adherence to R&D gate model process
Technology direction - Responsible for creation and execution of NEMA R&D strategy in agreement, Creates, plans and follows up NEMA technology road map
Innovation and creativity - Develop, secures and facilitates innovation process, and ensures key performance indicators (KPIs) are in place to be tracked
Projects, processes and tools - Ensures NEMA R&D and engineering projects are delivered on time and on budget. Ensures that actions and decisions taken are approved in accordance with prevailing policies and instructions, Drives, influences and facilitates cooperation around market standards and guidelines important to the Division
R&D context - Aligns R&D with Product Management function to define market-oriented R&D projects, Knowledge transfer - Supports and oversees transfer of technology and knowledge between the business and internal partners
Network and visibility - Represent the Technology function to customers and internal/external stakeholders. Ensures representation to relevant universities and institutions, Intellectual property (IP) and risk management - Ensures NEMA IP strategies are created, targets set and followed up
Finance and budget - Responsible for R&D budget and targets, set in accordance with parameters decided by the NEMA Division President
People leadership and development - Ensures that people processes are in place to enable the appropriate organization, competence and skills to exist or be developed, Guides, motivates and coaches' team and individuals, both direct and indirect

Your background

Bachelor's degree in R&D, engineering or related field required and minimum 15 years of experience in R&D, engineering, or related field
Master's degree a plus
Self-motivated and directed, Excellent relationship, interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills, Good understanding of relevant markets, customers and competition
Strong global business / financial acumen, strategic thinking and analytical problem solving and organizational skills, Goal and results oriented mind-set, Proven record in execution of defined strategic initiatives
Project management - including the ability to lead and influence teams of senior managers, Strong Microsoft Office/computer skills and previous SAP experience preferred
Clear communication in internal and external discussions and presentations, persuasive and Willingness to travel
Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
